·         Gavin turned six months!
·         To sit or not to sit? That is the question.
·         Taste testing
·         The new baby sitter

It is so hard to believe, but Gavin turned six months this month!  We can’t believe how big he is getting.  At his six month appointment they informed us that he is now 27 inches long and 15lbs 12oz.  While he didn’t quite make it to doubling his birth weight the doctor was still pleasantly surprised with how much weight he had gained in one short month.

This month has been a month of firsts for Gavin.  We were starting to get worried cause he wasn’t sitting on his own at six months, but the doctor told us not to worry that only 25% of babies actually can sit up at six months.  When we had the base nurse come over to check on his progress, she told us that to her it looks like he knows how to do it, but he just doesn’t want too.  Well the nurse was right.  Gavin would sit with us if we were behind him or had his Boppy pillow behind him, but when we would move he would stay sitting until he noticed we were gone then he would fall over.  He still does this to an extent, but at least he will stay sitting on his own if one of us is in front of him.

Besides finding new ways to exploit us, Gavin has been indulging himself into a wide variety of different foods.  So far we have determined that Gavin’s three favorite foods are avocados, sweet potatoes, and yogurt.  For the most part we are making all his baby food, but we do purchase the yogurt and his rice cereal.  I must say that I am finding this very cost effective and also I don’t mind trying it to encourage Gavin that it is really good stuff (and much to my surprise it really is)!  We had to switch Gavin from regular rice cereal to whole wheat cereal, but he seems to be really enjoying it.

As time has been going on, Buffy has been getting more and more use to Gavin.  She doesn’t seem to mind him as long as he isn’t flailing his arms at her, screaming in her face, or pulling her hair.  Buffy will actually try to play with him from time to time when Gavin is having tummy time.  It’s really sweet.  Little does Buffy know, but he will eventually start to crawl.  We can’t wait to see how that scene will unfold.
