Josh and I celebrated our five year wedding anniversary on December 1st.   To celebrate we went to Cattleman’s Steakhouse for the first time since being stationed here in Oklahoma and it was actually really good!  It’s hard to believe how the time flies.  Five years ago Josh and I rode with my parents to the courthouse, both of us as nervous as can be, and after we were married we went to brunch with my mom and my best friend Christina.  It was an incredible day.  Even though we didn’t have a mattress for our bed yet and definitely no sheets, the day became even more memorable when Josh’s dad arrived in town to surprise us!  He may have missed the ceremony, but he was there a year and a half later when we had our church wedding.  I love my husband, I love his family, and I love our life together!

Gavin had his first bite of rice cereal on December 3rd!  My little boy is turning into my little man.  He really enjoys eating his food and I think he would eat it all day long if we would allow him too.  Both Josh and I found it amazing how quickly he picked up on how to eat.  He opens his mouth and sticks out his tongue when he want s more and when he’s done he sticks both hands into his mouth and lowers  his head.  It is still so hard for me to believe how big he is getting.

If you recall from last month Gavin had to go back into the doctor this month to have his weight checked.  Well the good news is that he is still in the same percentiles for everything.  His length was 26.25; weight was 14.12; and his head circumference was 16.33.  That is keeping him in the 75th percentile for height and the 25th percentile for weight.  On top of his growing he is playing more games with Josh and I.  He loves to play hide and seek with his blanket.  If you cover his head and ask "where's Gavin?" he will throw the blanket off his head with a great big grin waiting for you.  He has also decided that it is fun to roll around in his crib.  The one problem we have found with this is that he rolls right to the edge and his face gets pressed up against the bars and arm always falls through the bars.  He is definitely entertaining!

I was convinced at the beginning of the month that Gavin was going to be a left handed person for sure.  He seems to favor sucking on his left thumb, he tends to grab things with his left hand, and he would only roll over on his left side.  Well that all changed on Christmas.  He decided to mix it up just to keep us guessing.  Now he uses which ever hand is more convenient, he rolls over on whichever side suits him at the time, and even if he is sucking his left thumb he will try to stick the right one into your mouth if you are holding him.

For our first Christmas together we decided to stay here in Oklahoma.  It was actually nice not to have to worry about travel or forgetting things.  It was also nice having Gavin’s first Christmas in our home.  We were able to get on Skype with Oma and Opa while we opened gifts so it was almost like we were home in Utah.  Gavin did get a little spoiled this year, but that is okay we knew that was going to happen.  He got tons of toys and clothes.  So far his favorite toy seems to be this ball that Santa brought him.  It rolls and lights up.  He loves batting it around.

I feel old when I say this, but even if Josh didn’t have to work on New Year’s Eve, I still would have stayed home crocheting.  Since Gavin has been going through a growth spurt, he’s been waking up about every hour to two hours during the night.  This has made me beyond tired to even though I stayed up until midnight just so that I could call my love and wish him a happy new year, I fell asleep shortly after.
